What did I read? Not everything on my list, so fail. But I did read some other stuff, and with my honeymoon coming up in three weeks, I feel like I’m going to get a lot of reading done. (I’m dead serious on this one—I’ll be at the beach!)
2. The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, a memoir
3. American Pastoral by Philip Roth, a novel (PR is the best.)
4. To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, an award-winning “comic science fiction novel”
5. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, supposedly phenomenal non-fiction work [in my defense, I am on the waiting list for this at the library!!]
6. Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome, idyllic children’s adventure book
7. Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, which I’ve been meaning to read for years
9. Forever by Maggie Stiefvater, like Twilight but well-written?
Extra Credit (what I did read even though it wasn’t on this list):
· Bloodroot, Amy Green—pretty good
· Columbine, Dave Cullen—very good
· Outlander, Diana Gabaldon—good enough, but I should get extra extra credit for this because it was 688 pages long!
· Kill the Messenger, Tami Hoag—lame
· Mistress of the Art of Death, Ariana Franklin—good enough
· The Sherlockian, Graham Moore—good enough
I am now moving all the remaining titles on my Summer reading list to my Fall reading list except #6, which I feel is more of a summertime book. As previously discussed, #8 was good, and I am halfway through the next book in the series. I do not recommend #10. I think I am over these. I always knew they were lame, but as I’m looking at this list knowing that I read that book and literally have no idea what happened, I think it’s safe to say I should stop reading them.
New goal: focus more on stuff I want to read instead of random stuff I find available in the audiobook section of the library. That section helps me get through more books, but it’s obviously limiting the quality of my choices.

Did you get through the books you wanted to read? Are you looking forward to anything coming up/do you have any recommendations for me?
1. I am close to finishing A Dance with Dragons. You should read it (before your wedding) so I can have someone to talk about it with. Specifically, the parentage of Jon Snow.
ReplyDelete2. Don't read The Immortal Life. It's dumb (no, I haven't read it), but from all of Skloot's interviews, I hate her and I can't imagine that the book is very good. If you really want to read it though, I can bring you our copy.
